Jones Soda
Jones: Sweetend with Pure Cane Sugar
To sweeten sodas, and a multitude of other food and beverages, companies typically use the sweetener high fructose corn syrup (or HFCS for short). But here at Jones we’ve decided to do things a little different. Thanks to phone calls from our fans, consumer research, and one passionately loud Jones Soda Receptionist, we are tossing out the HFCS. You may have seen that our 12-ounce cans of soda are now made with pure cane sugar, and by mid-2007 all of your favorite Jones products will be available with real sugar.
Overcoming Disease
What does it mean to truly heal? When I was in high school we had total belief that by the year 2000 medical science would have eliminated all disease. Who could have known that the “bugs” would adapt and morph into stronger strains that would resist modern science? As our drugs become stronger and stronger, so do the “bugs”.
Naturopaths believe that our bodies were created to be self-healing bio-mechanical machines. If your body is not healing as it should, one of three possibilities is true. One, you are not obeying the laws of nature through your lifestyle choices, two, you experienced a trauma that is blocking your healing or three, you are genetically predisposed for the problem and have not taken steps the compensate for the inherited tendency.
A natural healer would address all three of these possibilities to stimulate the body to heal itself. Herring’s Law of Healing states that the body heals from the head down, from the inside out and in reverse order of how you got sick. The Chinese believe it takes one month for every year you have been sick to truly heal. I find that it can happen faster if you really make a commitment to change your lifestyle.
Most of the chronic disease today is caused by lifestyle choices that you make that diminish or destroy your immune system, cause your body to be very acidic (a perfect home for the “bugs”) and cause glandular exhaustion. The good news is that there is hope through remedies that are non-invasive and non-poisonous.
Nutrition
What is nutrition? Does everything we eat and drink qualify as nutrition? Years ago when everything you ate came from what you or your neighbors grew or raised, the answer to that question would have been yes. However, in today’s society our grocery stores are full of products that have less actual nutrition in them than the boxes or bags they come in.
The more a food is processed, (boiled, baked, fried, irradiated, genetically engineered, freeze dried, separated, purified, pasteurized, dyed, preserved, enhanced, enriched, emulsified, packaged) the less actual life is left in it. Then we take it home and broil, bake, fry, boil or grill it again and then soak it with margarine, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, salt, etc.
There are children today that have never tasted food in its natural, unadulterated, unsugared state. All of these lifeless, over-processed foods fill our tummies for a while and provide just a little, but not much, fiber. But, they do not really feed the body. Over time this leaves your body with no reserves to repair blood vessels, clean arteries and veins, sustain optimum brain function, maintain a steady, regular heartbeat or provide the energy required to live a full and active life. In other words, good health.
I don’t believe that God intended for us to get sicker and sicker until we reach the nursing home stage and then wait to die a long, miserable death. I believe that He intended for us to ride our bicycles and play with our grandchildren until it comes time to lie down and die.
Japan is rated #1 in over all health by the World Health Organization and the United States is rated 73rd. This country spends more money on health than any other country in the world and yet we have the highest rate of degenerative disease. What is wrong with this picture?
Gardasil Controversy
As parents we all want our children to be as healthy and happy as possible. So when the commercial shows bright and shiny young girls jumping rope and singing we assume that this vaccine will make them just as happy, but that is not so. There are more than 100 types of the HPV virus (Gardasil only claims to protect against 4), it is the first genetically altered vaccine, and nowhere in it’s own literature does it claim to prevent HPV. Is it really worth the risk?
Diabetes on the rise
Diabetes is expected to increase by 70% over the next ten years. This was a statement issued by the pharmaceutical companies this month. That got my attention and is, once again, the subject of one of my columns. How can this be in a land where we have available fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains from all over the world?
We are obsessed in this country with sweets. Sweet drinks, sweet desserts, even sugar in our sauces and condiments. Now, we are paying the price. You don’t hear the phrase, adult onset diabetes, anymore. Why not? Is it because we are becoming diabetic at younger and younger ages? The youngest so far is an 8 year old.
The number one sweetener in the United States today is HFCS, High Fructose Corn Syrup. It is inexpensive to make and it is sweeter than normal sugar and other artificial sweeteners. It is in sports drinks, juices, bottled water, bottled tea, soft drinks, salad dressings, ketchup, and soups….shall I go on? Just read your ingredients labels. HFCS hardens the arteries and veins and is especially dangerous for the kidneys. It also spikes your blood sugar, causing insulin problems.
I received an e-mail after my column on Splenda, asking that I also address Aspartame. Aspartame is also an excitotoxin, a term used by Dr. Blaylock, a New York brain surgeon in his book by the same name. It damages the synapses in the brain and is irreversible in children. MSG is also in this category of chemicals. All chemical sweeteners feed infection, damage and upset the immune system, and effect blood sugar, bringing on diabetes.
I know that it is inconvenient to change eating habits. I know that habits (addictions) are hard to break. What do you think the Lord would have to say about something you are consuming that is addictive, harmful and has no nutritional value at all? It is never too late to have Better Health, Naturally.
Allergy Season is upon us
Tis the season for sneezin’. Have you noticed? Every other person you meet is either sneezing or coughing. What can you do to help prevent it, or if it is too late for that, to treat it? We have had an unusual year. No season seems to be behaving normally. What we can count on this time of year is rag weed and temperature changes. Both of these things seem to bring out the tissues.
The first thing you should do for your nose and sinuses is to irrigate them regularly. This is called nasal laphage or irrigation. It can be done with a Netti pot, a bulb syringe or even using your hand as a cup. You will need a cup of warm water and about 1 teaspoon of salt. After mixing, use whichever method is available to you and pour, squirt or inhale the water into one nostril while leaning your head over in the direction of the opposite nostril. The goal is to flush the water into the sinuses through one nostril and out of the other nostril, thereby washing out the pollen, mucus and infection, if there is any. This will burn a little if there is any infection. But, trust me, the relief will begin immediately.
If you are coughing or spitting up green or yellow mucus, an infection has already started. I would recommend you begin taking at least 1000 mg of Vitamin C every other hour and ask your local herbalist for an herbal combination that has proven effective in fighting these infections. There are also great herbal cough syrups that soothe the throat, open the sinuses and fight the infection.
For a sore throat, immediately gargle with warm water and as much salt as you can handle, maybe a couple of tablespoons. Also effective is coating the inside of a paper mask, like you wear to mow the lawn, with Vicks Vapor Rub or essential oils and wear it as much as possible, but especially at night. Also, pour about 5 drops of hydrogen peroxide in each ear and let it boil down into each ear alternately for about 10 minutes.
These simple, inexpensive tips can ward off allergies or a cold if you catch the symptoms early enough. If not, they will still help you feel better, naturally.
The First Garden
Have you ever thought about the first home God ever made for man and woman? It was a garden. In my back yard I have a space that is my prayer garden where I grow most of my herbs. I have a plaque in that garden that reads “Time Began In a Garden”. I love that. What it reinforces for me is that God is very interested in what we eat and drink. He spent time with Adam and Eve explaining what was for their food in the garden and what was not for their food. Man’s fall came as a result of eating something God didn’t intend to be eaten. Food and water are God given for the sustenance and healing of man and the right to choose what we eat and drink should be a God given right.
He has created such a variety for us and not only is it enjoyable to eat, but it beautiful to look at and as a side benefit, it heals us. On April 30th a vote will be taken that could, again take freedoms from us that change all of that forever. As a young adult I would never have dreamed that prayer in schools would be banned, or that Christian people would allow the infanticide of unborn babies.
Please join me this week in praying that our liberty to decide what to drink, what to eat, or to pray for healing in hospitals and in public forums as well as using lotions, oils, vegetable juices and herbs for safe healing as an alternative to drugs and surgeries on APRIL 30TH will not be slowly taken away.
New Year, New Blog
I know we’ve been absent for awhile but we’ve been undergoing some big changes around here. I’ve had a lot of people ask for my back newsletters and I plan to put them all up when I have time, please be patient with me.
